Sand Casting
The sand casting process uses green sand or dry sand to make a mold for casting molten metal. Most castings are produced by this old but novel casting process. Sand casting is one of the most popular and simplest types of casting. Sand casting can produce smaller batches than permanent mold casting, and the cost is very reasonable.
Since the sand casting process is well suited for complex geometries, it takes advantage of the sand grain density, refractory and recyclability to produce relatively inexpensive molds, and enables rapid development and design changes at a competitive cost. For some castings of huge size and weight, the sand casting process is the first choice we should consider when we choose a suitable manufacturing method.
There are many sand casting processes depending on different mold materials. At Tianhui Foundry, we can perform sand casting processes through green sand casting, pre-coated resin sand casting and furan resin sand casting. Pre-coated resin sand casting is also called shell casting or shell casting. The shell casting process gives the finished casting a better surface quality.
In our high-tech facility, we offer both automatic machines and manual molding operations in the resin sand casting process. Tianhui Machine can cast gray and ductile iron castings up to 1 ton in finished weight and steel and stainless steel castings up to 0.5 ton using our no-bake process.
Tianhui Machine is dedicated to the quality of our work and our commitment to excellence ensures the highest customer satisfaction. As a global leader in high-precision, high-complexity and mission-critical cast and machined metal parts, we strive to meet and exceed our customers’ needs.

How we inspect sand castings
Our spectrometers detect 20 chemical elements, metallographic microscopes produce high-resolution images at 1.000x magnification, and our cleanliness meters determine particle size and quantity to ensure materials meet or exceed international standards. Tianhui Machine uses ultrasonic detectors to find defects and has an X-ray machine and accelerator that can scan castings with a maximum wall thickness of 200mm.
Tianhui Machine has comprehensive in-house testing capabilities including:
*Spectroscopic and manual quantitative analysis
*Metallographic analysis
*Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers hardness testing
*Mechanical property analysis
*Cryogenic and normal temperature impact testing
*Cleanliness testing
*UT, MT and RT testing
Sand Casting Applications
Tianhui Machine specializes in manufacturing precision die castings for a wide range of industries. Our customers include some of the most successful companies in the world, from Fortune 500 companies to small family businesses.
Sand Casting Advantages and Alternatives
Sand Casting
*Versatility:
Suitable for a wide range of metals and alloys, providing flexibility in material selection.
*Low Cost:
Initial tooling and setup costs are typically lower compared to investment casting and die casting, making it cost-effective for small to medium production batches.
*Large Components:
Suitable for casting large and heavy components due to the adjustability of the mold size.
*Precision and detail:
Investment casting can produce complex and highly detailed parts with excellent surface finish.
*Versatility:
Suitable for a wide range of metals, including ferrous and nonferrous alloys.
*Low material waste:
Because the mold is simply a thin ceramic shell, the process produces minimal material waste.
*High Productivity:
Die casting is highly efficient for large-scale production and can cast complex parts at high speeds.
*Dimensional Accuracy:
It offers excellent dimensional accuracy and tight tolerances, making it suitable for precision components.
*Surface Finish:
Die casting produces parts with a smooth surface finish, reducing the need for additional machining.
